Today I was assigned a focus students. Actually, I was very interested in this student so I was very happy with my CT’s selection. This little girl, though cute as a button, has had much difficulty adjusting to Kindergarten. She is almost always off task, and disrupting the class to ask questions unrelated to the lessons. When she is not called on, she starts whining and even crying. She also tries to get the teacher’s attention by telling her “I just have to talk to you.” Many questions come to mind when I think about this student. What’s her life at home like? Does she act like this at home? Do her parents give her anything she wants just to pacify her, so she’s looking for the same at school? I know her mom just had a baby, is that the cause of her acting out?

There are so many possibilities when it comes to the root of this student’s behavior. In the coming weeks, I will share my observations with Mrs. Cecco and compare her thoughts to mine. Hopefully, more information will be revealed by the parents in order to help this student to be successful in kindergarten.
