“Teaching “ is defined by far more than lesson plans and curricula. To be a teacher , is to understand that you are responsible for the learning and development of the students in your classroom, regardless of socioeconomic status, learning ability or developmental level. All students are unique, with many different attitudes towards learning, and a variety of experiences outside of school. As teachers, we cannot expect all students to adapt to our lessons; we must create our lessons surrounding the needs of our students. Every child matters. We cannot afford to overlook any student, simply because it is “too difficult” to teach them. We must seek out research-based strategies when we no longer possess any creative ideas to reach at-risk students, and help them strive for their greatest potential.
“Teaching” stretches far beyond the textbook. Students should also be taught valuable life tools like responsibility and punctuality. We must model good character in order develop those behaviors in our students. As teachers we should an example of positivity and proactivity, constantly motivating our students and teach them to think exhibit higher order thinking skills.
As a teacher, I want my students to always remember me as a fun, caring teacher who constantly encouraged them to achieve their greatest potential. When my students leave my classroom and move on through their school years, I want them to remember being in a positive, uplifting environment where they felt motivated by the teacher and by each other.

Each student has a different learning style and pace, but it is vital to keep their attention and check for signs of understanding. Children are honest. If you’re not interesting, they will let you know. Lesson plans should include discussions, group work, meaningful crafts, videos, games, and many other ways to keep students. In order for students to place a high-value on education, they must first enjoy learning.
