Peyton has had difficulty staying on task, and often questions the flow of the class schedule. "When is lunch?" "When are we going out side?" "When are we going home?" Mrs. Cecco decided to provide Peyton with a way to keep track of the class schedule herself. She stuck two strips of Velcro on Peyton's desk with laminated squares of paper labeled with the course schedule. The squares start on the top Velcro strip, and are moved down after each activity. Peyton would be able to do this herself, and have a visual understanding of the the class schedule. On the first day, this strategy worked fine... until it rained outside and the class could not go to the playgound. Peyton was so stuck on the fact that "teacher-led P.E." was next in the schedule that she could not mentally move on to the next square. She cried and whined, "We can't! We can't" This good idea the teacher came up with the intension of keeping Peyton on track suddenly back fired. Eventually, Mrs. Cecco was able to refocus Peyton, but it wasn't easy and it took A LOT of patience!
