Playdoh Teaching Philosophy

My PlayDoh philosophy was based on the 3 C's (Although the picture size is too big to completely upload).

Three C's of Cooperative Discipline:

1.Capability- Most important of school success is the "I-Can" level. Teacher should make mistakes okay, and remind students that mistakes are apart of the learning process. Teachers should encourage students, and builder their confidence. Teachers should also focus on past successes as a way to motivate students, and remind them of times that they have done great work.

2. Connect- This means teacher-student and student-student connection. Teacher can build relationships with students simply by seeming interested in their hobbies and activities, and recognizing birthdays and milestones. Students maintain positive relationships with one another that are based on respect for their peers. Teachers and student go out of their way to make positive remarks of encouragement and recognition.

3. Contribution- Teachers encourage students to contribute to the classroom, school, and community through sharing ideas, taking part in school activities, and community service. Students should be encouraged to help each other (peer tutoring, peer counseling, and peer mediation).

My model was pretty literal... an umbrella with 3 C's on it. Most of my peers were able to easily determine the message. Some, hoewever, offered some interesting ideas. ALthough my main objective was to focus on the definitions above, when reading the words written by peers, I realized that the 3 C's do offer the feeling of "safety" and "protection" for my students. I do want my students to feel safe anf protected. I want them to feel safe in my presence and know I want nothing but the best for them. They should feel safe around their peers, and free to offer their own ideas. If they are offended or hurt by other the students, they should feel like I would protect them from it happening again. I want my students to feel capable to reach goals they set for themselves. I want my students to connect with each other, and with me, and I want all students to positively and effectively contribute to the community of the classroom. I believe that if I follow the guidlenes of the 3 C's, then the community we all hope to build in our classrooms will becomme a reality.
